Things to see and do

Tropical Coast Retreat is at the locality of "Duranbah", in the Tweed Coast hinterland.   While this area was formerly an agricultural research station, the name will be most familiar to surfers for the world class surfing breaks at Duranbah and Coolangatta, which are just 20 minutes drive north, for all the would be "grommits".

Set on 35 acres of subtropical orchards and bushland, you can take a leisurely stroll through the property, and enjoy the gardens, natural settings, and regenerating rainforest, or "discover" our picnic table in the Ti Tree forest.

If you're a birdwatcher, be sure to bring your binoculars and field guide/s, as the wetland area abounds with avian activity!  Visit our orchard of Citrus, Avocados, Custard Apples, Bananas and other fruits and "pick your own" (in season).

Golfers can get in some practice on our 4 hole course before tackling the delights of one of the many well known and respected public and resort Golf Courses.

Whilst set in peaceful surroundings, for the more active, horse riding, golf courses and fishing are a short drive, with the sun and surf of the Tweed Coast at Kingscliff and Tweed Heads, just 10 minutes drive away.  Discover the ambience of quaint country villages, and enjoy the al fresco dining of Kingscliff and Murwillumbah's cafe culture after you've sampled the famous weekend and country markets the region is renowned for.

Most of the major headlands of the Tweed Coast also provide boardwalks and lookouts, great during whale watching season. These provide pleasant, short and scenic walks, most with interpretive signage, while a visit to Minjungbul Museum at Tweed Heads is an interesting visit for aboriginal culture in the local region.

Or you can visit "Stotts Island Nature Reserve" on the Tweed Valley Way (old Pacific Highway) for a pleasant stroll through regenerating rainforest adjacent to the primary remaining subtropical lowland rainforest in the region.

And, of course, the national parks of the World Heritage listed Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves, including Mount Warning National Park, and on the Gold Coast via Currumbin, Springbrook National Park, are within 45 minutes drive.
